Finding the perfect photo for your profile

You want to make the best possible impression on other members, so it's worth putting some care into your choice of photo for your profile These tips are designed to help you get it right.

Most of the photos on this page are marked with a red cross . This means they do NOT follow PARSHIP's recommended guidelines. At the bottom of the page the two rows of photos are marked with a green tick to show that they DO follow our recommended guidelines.

Your main photo

You can include up to three photos on your profile. The first of these is your main photo. It will appear in a reduced-size format on other members' lists of suggested partners and in a larger format on your personal profile. Your main photo must be in a portrait-style format.

The perfect picture DO choose a portrait-style shot for your main photo
Your face must be the centre of attention in the main photo. If the shot was taken from too far away, other members won't be able to see your face properly on their list of suggested partners. Keep interesting holiday or action shots for photo No 2 or No 3.

The perfect picture DO choose a photo where you are looking into the camera
The format of this photo is fine, but you need to look into the camera. It should be all about you! Other members want to see your eyes.

The perfect picture DO look friendly
Smile into the camera, but make sure you don't look funny or surprised in the shot.

The perfect picture DON'T use a passport photo
Passport photos are generally too formal. Choose photos where you look relaxed.

The perfect picture DON'T use a party photo
You might have been having a good time, but a 'fun' party photo could create the wrong impression on someone who doesn't already know you.

The perfect picture DON'T use an old photo
Your photos should be up to date and show you as you look now.

More tips on choosing a shot

The perfect picture DO choose a picture that shows you on your own
PARSHIP does not accept photos which show another person (see section below on privacy) and you should avoid a photo where someone else's face has had to be blacked out.

The perfect picture DO choose a photo of good technical quality
The camera angle should be right and the image sharp. Red-eye is unacceptable. You can use image-editing software (e.g. Microsoft photo editor) to adjust the clarity, colour and brightness of your photo.

The perfect picture DO make sure you're recognisable
It's better not to be wearing sunglasses, a hat or anything else that could look like a form of disguise. Other members will want to see your face and eyes.

The perfect picture DON'T forget about the background
People will draw conclusions from the background about your character and tastes. A neutral background is the best bet.

The perfect picture DON'T use special effects or filters
Your face must be readily recognisable in the photo. Remember that, in any case, PARSHIP's photo policy means you can remain anonymous for as long as you like.

The perfect picture DON'T make your pet the centre of attention
Is it important to you for a prospective partner to like animals? That's fine, but you have to be the priority on PARSHIP, so use the three photos on your profile to show different aspects of yourself.

Photos must conform to PARSHIP's terms & conditions and guidelines

PARSHIP is intended as a safe and pleasant place to meet other people. We have a set of rules for photos on profiles and we check all photos to ensure that our members stick to them. If a photo does not conform to our terms & conditions and guidelines, it will be rejected.

The perfect picture DO respect other people's privacy
Your profile is about you. Pictures of other people are a distraction -- and it's an infringement of their privacy. PARSHIP is not in a position to check that other people have given permission for their image to appear, so we cannot accept photos featuring more than one person.

The perfect picture DON'T choose photos where you don't have your clothes on and DON'T include any personal data
We check all photos submitted for members' profiles. Sexual imagery or anything else that could be considered offensive will cause us to reject a photo. Nor is it acceptable for personal data (for instance an email address) to appear on a photo.

The perfect picture DON'T include cartoon characters, drawings or celebrities
Pictures of famous figures such as Donald Duck or Brad Pitt are a no-go. We work on the assumption that they are an infringement of copyright.

The perfect picture DON'T include images of children
To protect children we reject any photos of children on their own.

Technical issues
The technical specifications for photos on PARSHIP are as follows:
The photo file size should be no bigger than 700 kB
The photo should be supplied in .gif- or .jpg. format.
Images should be a maximum of 300 pixels wide by 400 pixels high

The perfect picture Choose the right file format
The best format is .jpg. Check that is less than 700 kb in size, otherwise it is likely to get cropped, which might affect the image. If necessary, adjust the image before you upload it.

The perfect picture Choose a photo with the right proportions
On PARSHIP photos appear in portrait (vertical) format, maximum 300 pixels wide and 400 pixels high. You won't make best use of the space if you supply a photo in landscape (horizontal) format.

Get a friend's advice

The perfect picture Get a friend's advice
Find out what other people think of your photo. Check your choice of photo with someone you know well. A friend is often better qualified than you to choose the right photo, because they can be more objective.

If you don't yet have a suitable photo, then take a few shots until there is one you are pleased with. Maybe get someone you know to help you.

If necessary, you can always try going to professional photographer. Digital technology means you can see the results straight away. A professional photo could prove a good investment in your future.
